It’s that time of year again! Can you believe it? The nights are getting longer, the air is getting cooler and we’re ecstatically waving our little cherubs off in the mornings (because summer holidays are loooooonng, am I right?!).
We don’t know whether it’s the transition between summer and autumn, or whether it’s the start of a new school year but we’ve always thought that September signals change and gives the perfect opportunity to start something afresh. So why not apply this feeling of newness to your marketing strategy? Here’s our four Back to School tips for taking your marketing back to basics:
1. SWOT
No, we’re not calling you names (we’re not really going back to school – thankfully), we’re talking about S.W.O.T – or a SWOT analysis. List out your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges. Chances are you’ve already done this but I bet that hasn’t been for ages right? So do it again! You’d be amazed about how much has changed.
2. Do your homework
Take a long, hard look at your data to figure out what’s working for you and what isn’t. Are your ads performing? Are you getting the most out of social media? How is your website ranking? Are you still reaching the right audiences? Taking a step back every now and then to really see how your marketing is working for you is essential practice. Do this regularly and you’ll be sure to get an A*.
3. Check out your classmates
While you’re taking the time to look at yourself, have a glance around and see what your competitors are doing too. To know where you fit in your industry, you need to know where you sit on the competitive landscape.
4. You do you
And finally, trust your instincts. You know your business best, so ultimately you need to do what you know works for you and your business. And, if any of your back to basics investigations have shown that you need help in some areas, well you know what to do. Call in the experts!
