Everyone seems to have a favourite podcast nowadays. From true crime to cooking to music, there is literally something for everyone. We bet you’ve even thought about starting your own! But how do you do it? There’s a lot of time and hard work that goes on behind the scenes of your favourite digital chat show but luckily for you, we are here to help! Here are our top 5 must-dos for a must-listen podcast:

Set yourself up to win – You don’t need a professional studio for a great podcast. All you need is a quiet room that doesn’t echo, software for recording (Zoom works fine) and a decent hosting platform that distributes to your chosen channels. Easy peasy!
Be YOU – What is your niche, your USP, what makes you, you? How can your podcast be better than those already out there? Decide on a subject or a theme, plan your episodes and let your personality be your trademark.
The where and when – Where will you distribute your podcast? Spotify? Apple Music? How often will you release episodes? Deciding on when and where the magic happens ahead of time is key!
It’s a chat, not an interview – Don’t take yourself so seriously! If you’re inviting guests to your show, have your questions ready but don’t feel the need to stick to script. Think of it as a casual but informative chat, add your questions when necessary but don’t tie yourself down. Just let the conversation flow.
Have fun! – This is probably the most important point of all! If you’re not enjoying it, your audience definitely won’t be either.
So, where can you gain inspiration before starting your own podcast? Well, you may have heard that we have our own (and it’s pretty good if we do say so ourselves!) Upfront with Jane (hosted by our very own Jane Entwistle) is available on Spotify (and also YouTube if podcasts aren’t your bag) with two awesome seasons available right now for your listening pleasure and an equally amazing season 3 coming in the new year.
