It was a busy weekend for fundraising with Sport Relief filling the tv screens with celebrities taking on gruelling challenges and embarrassing stunts.
Not only was the television filled with fundraising efforts, but the social networks were going crazy with the latest trend of the #nomakeupselfie all in aid of Cancer Awareness. The #hash-tag started trending on Tuesday of last week, and after just a few days, they had raised over £2m.
Since last week, women have been posting pictures of themselves without make-up on Twitter and Facebook. Each female is encouraged to nominate friends to post their own selfie and so it goes on.
Cancer Research UK has been “overwhelmed with donations and support” especially as the trend started organically rather than prompted by the charity themselves. The figures are currently standing at 871,000 likes on Facebook and 143,000 followers on Twitter.
