It’s been all go at Entyce during the last two weeks as we welcomed not one but two future digital marketers to our HQ for work experience.
Libby Randles, a Journalism student at Northumbria University joined us for one week, while Jess Jones, a Business Management graduate from the University of Leicester, joined us for two.
During their time here, they both got involved with all areas of marketing, from social media and content to design and web development. At the end of the week, they joined the team in celebrating our 15th birthday in style at The Guild in Chester. Jess and Libby were even given important jobs on the night – Libby managed our Instagram stories and TikTok and Jess helped with organising and looking after our guest list. They both did a cracking job and are welcome back any time!
As part of their work experience, we also quizzed Jess and Libby on what they love about digital marketing and what has drawn them to the creative industry.
What sparked your interest in the Digital Marketing Industry?
L: I have always known that I wanted a career somewhere in the industry but wasn’t sure exactly where. When it came to applying for university, I chose to study Media and Journalism. I chose this course as after a look at the modules, I saw that it dipped into several areas of the industry, and therefore could help me decide on what I enjoyed the most. My course covered PR projects, marketing campaigns, design, writing for digital, and videography/ documentary making.
J: After recently graduating, I was very unsure about what career path I wanted to pursue. With various marketing modules being of particular interest to me throughout my studies, I figured the ever-changing digital marketing industry would provide both exciting and challenging opportunities.
What area of Digital Marketing can you see yourself working in?
L: I would love a career working in social media. I spent around a year running the socials for a homeless charity that I volunteered for, and really enjoyed it. I also had so much fun when shadowing the social media team at Entyce, I find it really interesting and impressive how they create a different tone of voice and content for each client, that suits their audience.
J: After completing my time at Entyce, I find myself with an interest in multiple areas of digital
marketing. I find the design side rewarding as a process where a simple initial idea is transformed into an eye-catching piece of content. Similarly working with the social team, I found it interesting to observe the importance of tailoring content to a specific target audience.
Where do you currently study & what do you currently study?
L: I am currently in my third year of Media and Journalism at Northumbria University in Newcastle.
J: I graduated from the University of Leicester in July having studied Business Management. Studying such a broad degree my modules covered a range of topics from Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility to Accounting and Finance.
What made you decide to come to Entyce Creative for your work experience?
L: My dad (Simian) is very lucky to be a client of Entyce, so I have always known of Entyce, kept up to date with their socials, and seen the fantastic job that they do. I saw the new work experience scheme that they were offering earlier this year, and thought it seemed like a great opportunity!
J: Having seen on the Entyce website that work experience placements were on offer I further explored the company site, blog, and socials to find that I was excited by the scope of work, the projects, the client range and the overall ethos of the business.
What brands do you follow / like the look of, and why?
L: My favourite brands on social media are ones that take a more playful approach, and don’t take themselves too seriously. I love Innocent socials, I think they really stand out from other brands and their marketing team do a great job of making followers smile. Design wise, I love Oatly’s packaging, similarly to Innocent, their packaging has a playful tone yet still gets straight to the point!
J: The brands I tend to engage the most with online are those that generate trending content. Whether that be finding brands creeping into my TikTok feed with videos that utilise the latest sounds or watching endless reels on Instagram of behind the scenes brand work.
What has been the best part of your work experience at Entyce Creative?
L: I have loved my time at Entyce, I have learnt so much and felt so welcomed by everybody in the team. It is hard to choose a favourite part, but I think it has to be Entyce’s 15th birthday party – Entyce knows how to throw a party!
J: By chance my work experience overlapped with the Entyce Creative 15th Birthday Party at The Guild and that was definitely the highlight! Being given the chance to network with clients and further deepen relationships with the team was a brilliant opportunity.
What skills have you learnt that will help you in the future with your career in Digital Marketing?
L: I have learnt so much in just 1 week! Everybody in the team was so helpful and took a lot of time out of their day to take me through what they do and how they do it. Although I did have some experience in these areas, my placement at Entyce allowed me to experience them in a different way. Also, how an office dynamic works! As this was my first work experience, I had no idea what to expect from an office environment. Entyce showed me what a fun working environment looks like. (…It is normal for all offices to have a dog, isn’t it?)
J: Having been given the chance to work alongside all the different roles at Entyce the skills I have learnt are extensive. From strategy-centred content creation and market research to communication and increased understanding of the working environment.
Would you recommend the Entyce Work Experience to others?
L: Absolutely! I learnt so much from everybody at Entyce, they are all so skilled and were really happy to pass on their knowledge to me and let me get stuck in. A few of my friends said that they felt like a bit of a spare part when they did placements at other agencies, but this was never the case at Entyce. The skills I gained are so valuable and I can’t thank the amazing team at Entyce enough.
J: I would definitely recommend the Entyce work experience to anyone interested in a career in digital marketing. The team are so welcoming and support you throughout the programme, sharing their knowledge and expertise in all areas you work on.
